Concepts of Curriculum Design

The curricula are divided into two stages and all courses are taught in English.

This Program has a close partnership with one of the best hospitals in southern Taiwan, E-Da Hospital (an accredited teaching hospital) and E-Da Cancer Hospital (an affiliated hospital to E United Group), offering various learning resources and advanced medical equipment for students to bridge basic medical knowledge with clinical training easily. To keep abreast of the latest medical advances and better learning quality, students will also have chances to participate in the lectures and speeches given by national or international medical scholars and experts. In the 3rd and 4th academic years, students may choose to join international clinical clerkship in domestic or overseas hospitals or medical schools which have signed mutual collaborative education agreements with I-Shou University and E-Da Hospital to enrich and deepen the study of basic and clinical medical studies.

Two stages of curriculum planning are as follows:

Stage 1: Basic Medical Sciences

The 1st Stage will integrate basic medical sciences with clinical medicine. The courses are taught by the block-based organ system assisted by PBL group teaching method to cohere and link basic medical sciences with clinical medicine.

The basic medical sciences include Human Morphology (Anatomy, Histology, Embryology, Genetics, Pathology and Image Diagnosis) and Human Functions (Integrative Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Immunology and Laboratory Diagnosis). The advanced general education includes International Health, Medical History, Life Education, Medical Career, Voluntary Service, Physician-Patient Communications, Medical Humanity, Being a Friend with Patients, and Communication and Negotiation.

Stage 2: Clinical Medicine Courses

The 2nd Stage curricula mainly focus on clinical courses and clinical rotation. Besides, students are required to participate in ambulatory care education, teaching rounds, medical simulation, journal reading and training from Clinical Center.

The clinical core courses include Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Community Medicine, Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, and other related medical fields. Continuous learning is also essential for medical services. The elective courses in Stage 2, such as Special Research Topics in Medicine, Medical Writing and Special Research Topics in Clinical Medicine, are provided for cultivating students' medical research ability.
