About Us
The International School of Medicine for International Students (SMIS) at I-Shou University is one of Taiwan's few medical education programs established with a national policy mission. In alignment with the educational diplomacy and international healthcare capacity-building initiatives promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW), the program is dedicated to educating future physicians who possess professional competence, global perspectives, and a strong commitment to improving global health.
Since its establishment in Academic Year 2013, SMIS has educated multiple cohorts of outstanding international medical students. Our graduates have returned to their home countries to serve in clinical practice, public health, medical education, and healthcare administration, contributing to the advancement of healthcare systems while strengthening international medical collaboration and Taiwan's global partnerships.
The program primarily admits government-sponsored students nominated by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), and Taiwan's overseas missions from diplomatic allies. In accordance with government policy, students from designated partner countries may also be admitted. Through this unique mission, SMIS serves as an important platform for cultivating future healthcare leaders and fostering international collaboration.

SMIS is committed to delivering a high-quality, internationally recognized medical education while continuously enhancing its academic system and educational excellence. Our key development priorities include:
Internationally Aligned Medical Education
We provide a fully English-medium medical curriculum designed in accordance with the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), ensuring internationally recognized educational quality and learning outcomes.
Excellence in Clinical Education
By integrating the educational resources of I-Shou University College of Medicine, E-Da Hospital, and affiliated teaching hospitals, students receive comprehensive training in basic sciences, clinical medicine, and interdisciplinary healthcare within a world-class learning environment.

Our curriculum consists of four years of formal medical education followed by an optional one-year Clinical Training Program (Optional Clinical Training). This additional training provides valuable clinical experience and facilitates a smooth transition to medical practice in graduates' home countries.
Commitment to Global Health and Social Responsibility
We cultivate physicians who combine clinical excellence with compassion, public health awareness, intercultural competence, and leadership. Our graduates serve as Medical Ambassadors for Taiwan, promoting international healthcare collaboration and contributing to global health.
